غيتس يحذر في كابول من "معارك ضارية"

وصل وزير الدفاع الاميركي روبرت غيتس الى افغانستان في زيارة مفاجئة يلتقي خلالها قائد القوات الدولية في افغانستان الجنرال ستانلي ماكريستال لبحث النتائج الاولية للهجوم على "مرجه" في ما يعرف بعملية "مشترك". ومن المقرر ايضا ان يلتقي غيتس خلال زيارته التي تعتبر الزيارة الاولى له لافغانستان منذ بدء عملية "مشترك"، الرئيس الافغاني حامد كرزاي الذي زار الاحد الماضي "مرجه" للمرة الاولى. واستهل غيتس زيارته بالتحذير من ان القوات الدولية ستخوض "معارك ضارية" في مواجهة جماعة طالبان، حيث قال في تصريح للصحافيين الذين يرافقونه في رحلته قبيل وصوله الى كابول: ان القوات الدولية والافغانية يجب ان تتوقع "معارك ضارية جدا واياما اكثر صعوبة"، معتبرا انه يجب "بذل مزيد من الجهود".
لكنه اضاف: "اعتقد اننا نستطيع بذل مزيد من الجهود"، مذكرا بان الاستراتيجية الاميركية الجديدة القاضية بارسال قوات اضافية بقرار من اوباما ليست سوى في بداياتها. واوضح وزير الدفاع الاميركي ان حوالى 6 آلاف جندي وصلوا الى هذا البلد من اصل 30 الفا يفترض ان ينتشروا في افغانستان حتى آب/اغسطس القادم. وشنت قوات حلف شمال الاطلسي والجيش الافغاني قبل ثلاثة اسابيع عملية "مشترك" في جنوب البلاد، وهي اضخم عملية عسكرية منذ اجتياح هذا البلد عام 2001 ويشارك فيها 15 الف عسكري دولي وافغاني.
